The Most Important Question for Peace and Happiness

The Most Important Question for Peace and HappinessBy now you have all heard about the powers of meditation and living a mindful lifestyle. You may have started practicing either one of them or are in the process of searching the web to find information on how to do them “right” and that is really a wonderful thing. What I am finding though is that there are too many people who are getting all the right techniques on “how to” do it, but not getting the full benefits. This is happening because what is currently available is leaving out the absolutely most important details.

In fact, I recently got an inquiry from a new Life Coach client that said, “I am doing everything I can think of, I sit in meditation every day, I remind myself to pay attention to the present moment, but I don’t feel any better about anything. I might even feel worse and I’m not getting why other people are raving about how life changing meditation and mindfulness is. What am I missing?”

Well, there is a simple answer for that. What is missing is the most important question that you need to ask yourself at the beginning of your meditation sessions, and what you should also keep in your awareness as you are practice mindfulness. This question is crucial for a variety of important reasons.

Am I presenting my Most Excellent Self to each Moment?

You might find other words for that question. Basically it’s about exploring if you are living your life from your highest integrity and to the point you are fully capable of. This question is really easy to avoid because unless you have reached perfection, chances are the honest answer is, “I could be doing better”.

  • In meditation, ask “How can I better express my higher nature?” Then just let that question go as you meditate. This is not a question for your brain to answer; it is something that will work itself out during your meditation as you connect more fully on an inner level.
  • In mindfulness, pay attention to the present moment with the intention that you are going to bring your absolute best self to every moment gifted to you. Not in a pressure filled “beat yourself up way”, but in a celebration of the privilege and capability of offering everything you are.

I would go on to explain the important reasons for this to you, but I think it would be more powerful if you tried to discover the answers for yourself. Give them a heartfelt effort for the next couple of weeks and see how it goes. If you need help or would like additional information, please feel free to contact me.
