The Inner Game of Positive Empowerment

The Inner Game of Positive Empowerment“As we let our light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.” ~Marianne Williamson

What have you been thinking about lately? …you know, there are two kinds of thoughts, positive and negative. The positive thoughts make us feel good. The negative thoughts make us feel bad. That’s why it’s so important to guard your mind and your life with positive thinking and positive people.

I never knew how important positive empowerment was until I had an epiphany….

About 10 years ago, my family and I were going through a “rough patch”. We were forced to live in a Motel 6 for about 2 years. During this time, I was working at a hospital in the radiology department. It was a low time in my life and I was a nervous wreck. I constantly feared what would happen next….

  • “What if we don’t get the money to pay for the room?”
  • “What if we have to live on the street?”
  • “How long do we have to stay in this motel?”
  •  “When are we going to get a “real house”?

Every day, I would have all sorts of thoughts racing through my mind. No one had any idea that “mentally” I almost had a nervous breakdown. I started having anxiety attacks at work. I had to take frequent breaks to get fresh air, perform breathing exercises, and try to pull myself together.

All of the pressure of a demanding job, living in a motel, not having a car, dealing with a manipulative boss and being in a crazy relationship was bringing me down.

It certainly didn’t help that I was surrounded by negative people who were constantly reminding me of my life’s obstacles.

I was tired of living that way! I had to make some changes! I mean think about it…If you’re going through a difficult period in your life, do you want people to lift you up or bring you down? Shortly after I started working at the hospital, I hurt my back. I ended up being on bedrest in my early 20’s barely walking, having to deal with excruciating back pain while still in the motel.

I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I turned to my faith in God for a breakthrough. I prayed on the situation and waited for answers. Immediately it was like a light bulb went off in my head! “Stop focusing on negative things and start focusing on positive things.”

Stop hanging around people who are bringing you down and start hanging around people that are lifting you up.

Quite frankly, I didn’t know how I was going to do this because these were people that I saw every single day. I meditated on this again….I knew what I had to do! My transformation would start from the inside and reflect on the outside causing a shift of my entire environment. I started purposely thinking positive, going out of my way to be polite to people, and loving people where they’re at.

Here are just some of the major changes that took place:

  • My health changed dramatically
  • I had a sense of peace
  • I got a new car
  • I was in a wonderful relationship
  • I had new “positive” friends
  • We moved into an apartment …

Of course life wasn’t perfect but every day I showed gratitude for all the things that were going right and I found myself attracting more things to be grateful for. My friends, that’s the inner game of positive empowerment. It starts with you, on the inside, and then you empower others by letting your light shine and in turn, they empower you.
